Field Lighting Certification
Sports field lighting refers to the lighting systems that are used to illuminate sports fields and facilities, such as stadiums, arenas, and outdoor sports fields. These lighting systems are designed to provide sufficient illumination for players and officials to see the field and the ball, as well as for spectators to see the action.
Sports field lighting systems typically consist of a series of light fixtures that are mounted on poles or other structures around the perimeter of the field or on the stands. The fixtures may use a variety of different types of bulbs or lamps, including metal halide, high pressure sodium, or LED, depending on the specific requirements of the sport and the facility. In addition to providing sufficient illumination for the field of play, sports field lighting systems may also be designed to meet specific broadcast requirements or to provide a certain ambiance for the spectators.
We can perform lighting level analyses on any sports facility, including internal and external. The correct illumination of a sports field is essential for safety and performance. Field lighting can influence:
- the playability of the surface for players and officials
- the clarity required for tracking sports equipment
- the comfort and view for spectators
- the quality of media coverage such as videos and images
It is vital to assess when:
- a venue is being rated for official competitions
- an inspection is expected
- it’s part of a larger diagnostics plan for maintenance
Labosport performs illumination level checks according to the specifications desired by the sports federations or EN 12193. For this, night testing is necessary. Checks are completed in just one visit and followed by a report within 48 hours. The report includes details of all measurements and a notice of compliance or non-compliance in relation to the applicable requirements of sports governing bodies, standards, or specifications.
We use light meters that are formally calibrated by a laboratory with ISO 17025 accreditation. Laser pointers are used to get accurate alignment between the photocell and the target.
